'Middle of nowhere' Aussie town scores second major lottery win in just three weeks

The small town now boasts 11 winners just this month.

A 'middle of nowhere' town with just over 1,000 people is once again celebrating after another of its residents became a lottery winner, weeks after 10 others were made multi-millionaires.

The woman, living in Wentworth, a town in the far south west of NSW between the Darling and Murray rivers, pocketed $200,000 in Wednesday's Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw.

After The Lott reached out to her bearing good news, the local woke her husband up with her excited "screams". “This means so much. I’ve been praying for this, and I was just watching a movie about angels!" she told a lottery official.

“Every morning, my husband and I sit outside and talk about what we’d like to do if we won the lotto. We’ve always said we would buy a caravan and travel around Australia. Now we can!

“I’ve played every week for the past 20 years, I always put a bit to the side so I can get my $2 and $5 ticket."

The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $7.96 million for draw 1626, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $4.92 million for draw 10798.

10 Wentworth residents also became multi-millionaires

Despite only having a population of around 1221 people, the town recently scored earlier this month, when a 10-member store syndicate received $4 million each from the only division one winning entry in a Powerball draw.

While the woman who won $200,000 bought her ticket online, the 10 shares were bought at the local newsagent.

"I can’t believe it!” one of the winners said in a The Lott statement. "That's really good! We’re only a small town and it’s crazy to think there’s now 10 multi-millionaires here.”

The Wentworth Lotto and News owner, Rowan Congress was also "ecstatic," that her store is where the winning entries were sold. “Oh, that’s beautiful!” she said through tears. “That’s great news for Wentworth. We’re in the middle of nowhere!
