Aussie mum 'blinded' by $10.5 million lottery win at lunch

The woman says she is excited to live mortgage free after winning the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot on Monday.

A mum has had her life completely turned on its head after receiving a call confirming she is now officially a multi-millionaire after winning $10.5 million in Monday's Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot.

The woman from Mount Druitt in Sydney's west was on her lunch break at work on Monday when she checked her lottery tickets on the app and was completely "blinded" by the news that she held the winning jackpot entry.

"I started to check my tickets. I didn’t see my winning ticket straight away. I actually checked every other ticket first," she admitted. "Finally, I saw one ticket that said 'win'. I was honestly hoping for the 1st prize of $100,000."

"I opened it and oh my god! It was blinding to my eyes. Ten million dollars! I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t stop shaking," she said.

Husband thought lottery win was a scam

After learning of her new fortune the woman immediately phoned her husband who admitted he wouldn't allow himself to get excited until The Lott officials confirmed it.

"I called my husband right away. I said ‘Honey, would you believe me if I said I won 10 million dollars?" she said. "He thought it was a scam. He said he wouldn’t believe it until someone confirmed it."

However with $10.5 million now making its way to her bank account the mum confessed the first thing she would spend her winnings on was to pay off her mortgage, as well as on house renovations, which the family have been putting off. And after all those are paid for she intends to travel overseas to visit family.

"It's such a huge amount of money. I still can’t believe it," she said.

How Lucky Lottery jackpots work

Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot and Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot are raffle-style games, meaning there is a set number of tickets in each draw. As each entry is unique there is no sharing of prizes.

Each game has two draws – one that determines the more than 10,000 winning numbers, and one that determines the jackpot number. If the jackpot number matches one of the winning numbers, then the jackpot prize is won. If the jackpot number does not match one of the winning numbers, the jackpot prize will climb for the next draw.

The Mount Druitt woman won the jackpot in draw 10841 on Monday. Now the the jackpot has finally been one it reverts back to $500,000 for the next draw. Meanwhile, the Mega Jackpot is now $14.44 million for draw 1653.
