Parents leave kids home alone in 'deplorable' conditions while mother goes on holiday
A Pennsylvania mother and father haven been charged with endangering the welfare of their two children after leaving them in a filthy house while the mother went on holidays.
Nicole Sciortino, 30, allegedly went to Florida for three days, leaving a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old in a home littered with food, trash, pills and other rubbish on the floor.
According to court documents, police were called to Sciortino's house after it was reported that children had been left on their own for weeks.
Mr Licciardello lives at a different address.
When police tracked Ms Sciortino down, she admitted she was in Florida, Fox13 Now reports.
According to the document, she told investigators that the children’s father, Mr Licciardello, was watching the kids and that she was unaware it was against the law to leave her two children home alone unsupervised for an extended period of time.
Ms Sciortino allegedly said that she “didn’t think it was really that bad" to leave her children at home.

An investigation revealed that Mr Licciardello had "occasionally" dropped off food for the children, who were otherwise unsupervised.
Police believe the children were alone for the duration of the mother's Florida holiday, but not for weeks as the 911 caller had claimed.
It is alleged that one child has missed 16 days of school this year, while the other has missed 26 days.
Sciortino and Licciardello were both charged Monday with endangering the welfare of children. Both were given $10,000 (approximately AUD$12,975) unsecured bail, so both walked free.
The children are now staying with family friends, investigators said.
