'Big shock': Tributes flow in for 'outgoing' gardener killed by swarm of bees in Victoria

A Victorian gardener tragically killed by a swarm of bees has been remembered by family, friends and colleagues for his big heart and sense of fun.

Steven Tingate, 27, was working on a farm associated with the Royal Mail Hotel in the western district town of Dunkeld when he was attacked.

A co-worker administered first aid, but Mr Tingate could not be saved.

Royal Mail Hotel general manager Mark Whitnell said the team's thoughts are with the friends and family of their colleague.

The hotel's restaurant did not open on Wednesday out of respect for the man.

Ballan Bowling Club president David O'Halon told News Limited that Mr Tingate was a much-loved figure at the club.

"It's just a big shock to everyone," Mr O'Hanlon said.
