Dangerous train surfers ride inches from electric cables, waving to commuters
A shocking video has been posted online showing two people sitting on top of a Melbourne train as it takes off from a station, with live cables just above them.
A brief clip capturing the move, described as “reckless and extremely dangerous” by Metro, was posted to ‘Melbourne Train Stories’ Facebook page on Saturday.
It is not clear when the incident took place but the two people involved evidently thought they were embarking on a great feat, as they sit with their arms in the air, laughing and waving.
It clearly catches the attention of other commuters, with one raising his hand to the pair.
The video has been viewed almost 20,000 times since Saturday and most of those who commented were angered by the “stupidity” of the pair.
Others pointed out the danger of electrocution from the overhead cable: “It's all sh*ts and giggles until he stands up and gets that warm fuzzy feeling. Muppet!!!!” Chris Bartlett commented.

After viewing the video, Metro warned of the dangers of train surfing, calling it a “stunt that risks lives or serious injury”.
“This type of behaviour depicted in this video is reckless and extremely dangerous, and we urge anyone who sees this sort of behaviour to contact Victoria Police or press the red emergency button in the train carriage or on the platform," Metro spokesperson Sammie Black told Yahoo7.
Victoria Police said the inherent dangers were “plainly obvious” and such behaviour would be prosecuted where and when it was detected.
“[O]ffenders face significant risk of injury or even death when engaged in such behaviour. A fall or slip from any moving vehicle, regardless of speed, could cause significant injury,” said Senior Constable Lee Thomson.
“Depending on the incident, those detected may also face serious criminal charges such as conduct endangering life.”
