Adelaide risk-takers play chicken with moving trains

FIRST ON 7: Seven News has obtained shocking video of Adelaide thrill seekers playing railway roulette.

From surfing on trains to playing chicken with them, the risky stunts have authorities seeing red.

It's the middle of the night and from the darkness emerges every train driver's worst nightmare.

A man in the middle of the tracks is seen staring him down playing the most dangerous game of chicken.

“This is incredibly risky and dangerous behaviour. These are very heavy machines. They take a long time to slow down and stop," Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan told 7 News.

In another clip four young men jump onto the back of a carriage, in the distance two schoolgirls can be seen illegally crossing the tracks.

It then becomes clear one of the men is still clinging on.

The clips give a disturbing insight into the stunts performed almost daily.

“I can't imagine how parents must feel seeing school children running across the tracks like this having these children put their lives in danger," Mr Mullighan added.

In just eight months last year there were 88 near-misses and 37 train surfing incidents on the Adelaide rail network.

Those caught can be fined, even banned from using public transport altogether.

Now that CCTV is on trains police will investigate and find people.
