Man arrested in Bali over attempted rape of Australian woman

FIRST ON 7: A man has been arrested in Bali after he allegedly tried to rape an Australian woman.

The suspect was arrested at Sky Garden night club at Legian street, a victim report said.


It was initially reported the woman was in Indonesia celebrating Schoolies.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said: "The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has offered consular assistance to an Australian woman in Bali. Due to privacy reasons we will not be making further comment."

The man has been identified as a British citizen and said the sex was consensual.

Local police say that the man was taken into custody and is being detained at Denpasar police headquarters.

"We're still developing the evidence and facts," Denpasar Chief Detective Reinhard Habonaran Nainggolan told reporters. The man could be held for 24 hours, he added.
