Schoolie placed in coma after row over religion ends in 'spitting, coward punch'
Two teenagers have been charged after an altercation over religion ended with a schoolie being placed in a coma after he was 'punched and spat on'.
The victim, 18, who has since woken up and is in a stable condition, was allegedly coward punched twice by Daniel El-Nacher, 17, and then spat on during the incident just after midnight near the schoolies hub at Surfers Paradise.
A court heard the victim lost consciousness during the assault but was conscious when approached by police.

El-Nacher gained bail after facing Southport Magistrates Court on a charge of grievous bodily harm stemming from the attack.
Maddy Khal, 18, was earlier granted bail after appearing in court this morning charged with two counts of common assault.
Mr Khal denies he spat on the teenager, but admits spit came out of his mouth when he shot the Arabic word "haram" at him, which means 'forbidden' and can be used for reprimand strangers inappropriate behaviour.
The victim later reported to the Queensland Ambulance Service trauma centre with apparent symptoms of a head injury and was then intubated and transported to hospital while police were made aware of his deterioration.
