But one daredevil fits the bill for the most idiotic cheapskate after risking his life to avoid his hotel bill.
Footage from the city of Panzhou, in China's Guizhou region, shows a hotel guest dangling precariously on a telephone wire after escaping through a 19th-storey window, Shanghaiist reported.
The man's attempt at a quick escape on September 29 failed miserably as he became tangled in the wire, high above a busy road.
Shocked bystanders contacted emergency services, with firefighters arriving in time to rescue the man.
He was taken away by police officers after being safely brought down.
Whether the man forked out for his outstanding room charge is unknown.
