Pictured: Aussie found covered in leeches after two weeks missing in Malaysian jungle

The Hobart man who went missing while hiking in a Malaysian national park two weeks ago has been found alive by rescuers.

Andrew Gaskell was reportedly emaciated, weak and had leaches on his legs when found at the Mulu National Park, on the Island of Borneo, on Tuesday.

He has been airlifted to Miri Hospital for medical treatment, according to reports.

Mr Gaskell told his family he would be hiking in Sarawak for about a week from October 18, which was the last time he made contact.

The 25-year-old's family raised the alarm on October 20 with volunteers from a rural village joining in the search.

The Gaskell family said they had been "overwhelmed" by the Malay people's "kindness and generosity of spirit" in the search for the missing hiker.

Malaysian media say Gaskell was found by a rescue team around 12.30pm local time on Tuesday, where he was conscious and able to speak to his rescuers.

It took rescuers about an hour to winch Mr Gaskell to safety.

The engineer's recovery comes just days after his father and brother arrived in the country to assist in the search.

Gaskell had travelled to Malaysia for a cultural and photography holiday, after moving to Queensland three years earlier.
