Mystery sea creature washes up on shore

When the bones of a mysterious creature washed up on a beach in Russia, the public were baffled as to what it was.

Initial tests indicated that the skeleton was not a fish, an alligator or a crocodile, which lead theorists to believe that it may be the remains of a pre-historic sea monster.

Russian soldiers on the Sakhalin shoreline originally discovered the creature, an area situated near Japan, in 2006. The soldiers were dumbfounded by the find and took photographs of the skeleton remains.

Their reports indicated that it had a skin covered with hair or a type of fur and that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies.

But eight-years later, marine specialists say that they now know what the mysterious creature is.

The skeleton is that of a large beluga whale, which was washed up on shore by the currents after dying of unknown causes.
