'Dead' three-year-old wakes up during funeral service

A three-year-old Filipino girl pronounced dead after suffering a fever has woken up just a day later - inside her coffin and during a funeral ceremony.

Police reportedly confirmed the incident to the Philippine Star after a video showing the child moving around inside the coffin at a funeral service went viral.

According to the girl's parents, the three-year-old was rushed to a local hospital in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, after suffering a severe fever.

“During that time, the attending clinic personnel and physician confirmed that the young patient had no more pulse and was clinically dead last Saturday morning about 9am,” Police Senior Inspector Heidil Teelan was quoted as saying.

After being pronounced dead, the mistake was only discovered after it was noticed that the child's head was moving underneath a cover inside the coffin.

“This prompted them to check and confirmed the girl had pulse and was alive,” Teelan told the Philippine Star.

“We really cannot make confirmation on the status of the girl but based on the observation of the police personnel I deployed it appear the girl remained in a state of comatose in their house," said Inspector Teelan.

The family is now seeking a better-equipped hospital for treatment.
