Woman's TikTok shows bizarre feature of Airbnb: 'Is this legal?'
Booking an Airbnb close to restaurants and bars is always a selling point if you're on holiday, but one woman got more than she bargained for when she reserved a room in close proximity to New York's dining scene.
TikToker Desiree Baker was excited to arrive at her accommodation that claimed to have beautiful views of the New York City skyline, showing pictures from the room's window.
When she arrived at her accommodation though, she found that instead of overlooking the concrete jungle, she was looking directly into a busy restaurant.
"HOW IS THIS LEGAL (sic)," she captioned a video posted on TikTok.
"You literally can not make this up. I can open the window and touch their table."
In the video, Ms Baker show the pictures advertised on Airbnb, showing two beds in a room with a big window with the city's skyline in the background.
"In pictures from online [there's] like two beds nice view or whatever and good location. We opened the shades and there are no buildings," the woman said in disbelief.
"We're in a restaurant."
She then walks up to the window and opens the blinds to show what she actually has a view of.
Sitting on the other side of the window were two people eating at a table, unaware there was a room behind them.
"That's two people eating dinner," she said in the video.
The window was a one-way mirror
In a follow-up video, Ms Baker explained the window was actually a one-way mirror, so the people inside the restaurant wouldn’t be able to look into the hotel room or know a person is on on the other side.
She also said she had contacted the host who largely ignored her and replied later telling her it looks as though she had a good time.
Airbnb reached out after the TikTok went viral, apologising for the bizarre experience.
"Airbnb reached out and said they saw my TikTok and gave me a credit for future reservation which I was fine with," Ms Baker said.
A representative for Airbnb told Fox News they worked with Ms Baker and the hotel was under investigation.
