TikToker's shock discovery about dog who 'won’t listen'

A TikToker made a very sweet discovery about their newly-adopted dog, who just didn't seem to listen.

Last month on TikTok, user @kaleemcgee explained a few weeks before the first video, they had adopted a four-year-old chihuahua Max from a shelter and said he was "absolutely adorable, super great".

Kalee said it seems the dog had some training, as he would sit when someone has a treat in their hand and was good on the leash.

But, Max wouldn't listen to Kalee.

"So we're trying to get him to sit, trying to get him to do this stuff for two weeks, and we can't figure out why you won't listen to us," Kalee said, taking a deep breath.

"We figured it out, he only speaks Spanish. Our little chihuahua doesn't know English, is looking at us like what are you talking about?"

Kalee then went on to show TikTok how Max wouldn't respond to commands like "sit" and "come in English, but would in Spanish.

In a later video, when someone asked how they found out Max only understood Spanish, Kalee said they found out kind of by accident.

"So we're trying to get him to sit on the stairs, he wouldn't sit and I was like like, 'oh, maybe he was German', because some people will teach the dogs in German," Kalee said.

"And we tried it, didn't work, and my my partner was like, 'oh, no, he's obviously you know, he's Mexican, he speaks Spanish'."

Kalee and her partner tried it out and it worked, Max sat on the stairs and then the couple started asking their Alexa for different commands.

To help communicate with Max, Kalee has downloaded Duolingo, an app and website which helps teaches language.

Kalee has since posted a video of them saying various commands in Spanish to showcase what Max knows.

The first video Kalee shared on TikTok got a lot of love, with over 1.2 million likes and people really appreciated Kalee learning Spanish to communicate with Max.

"The thought of a person learning a new language for their new pup literally has me tearing up," one person said.

Many were happy Max would finally know he was a "good boy" now that Kalee had figured out he speaks Spanish.
