Surprising reply after woman texts dead dad's number every day for four years
A woman who texts the number of her dead father every day has received a heartwarming response from a stranger.
Chastity Patterson, from Newport in the US state of Rhode Island, wrote on Facebook she has been texting her dad’s number every day since he died four years ago.
On Friday, she posted her latest text on the fourth anniversary of his death.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t miss you,” she wrote.
Ms Patterson added in the four years she’s lost friends, beaten skin cancer and finished university.
"I lost all my friends and hit rock bottom, but I found someone who came into my life and saved me! I don't have any children yet, you would be so happy, but I'm ready," she wrote.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there when you needed me the most, but one day we will [have] our chance to watch that game.
"I'm afraid of marriage because I'll have to walk that long aisle alone and you won't be there to tell me everything will be okay."
Ms Patterson wrote she’s “feeling great” and her dad would be proud of the woman she’s become.
"I just wanted to say I love you and I really do miss you,” she wrote.
However, it turns out the number which belonged to her father now belongs to a man named Brad who texted her back.
"Hi sweetheart, I am not your father, but I have been getting all your messages for the past four years," he wrote.
“I lost my daughter in a car wreck in August 2014 and your messages have kept me alive.
“When you text me, I know it’s a message from God.”
Brad wrote he’s sorry for Ms Patterson’s loss and has wanted to text her back for years, but didn’t want to break her heart.
“You are an extraordinary woman and I wish my daughter would have become the woman you are,” he wrote.
He thanked Ms Patterson for the daily updates.
“You remind me that there is a God and it isn’t my fault my little girl is gone,” he wrote.
Ms Patterson wrote on Facebook, Brad’s message are a sign “everything is OK” and she can let her father rest.
Her post has since been shared more than 198,000 times and brought many people to tears.
“I hope you two stay in touch. I’m sure you’re in each other’s lives for a reason,” one woman wrote.
