Video has emerged of the moment a woman kicked a police officer in a late-night altercation in Melbourne's CBD.
An officer can be seen dragging the woman to the ground by her hair after she swung a leg at the male officer several times outside McDonald's on a busy Elizabeth Street in Melbourne's CBD in the early hours of New Year's Day.
The video begins with the woman swinging an arm at a male officer who is holding her by the wrist. Another woman tries to intervene before two other officers rush in and the original woman kicks the officer holding her. Following a second failed kick, the officer grabs her by the hair and drags her to the ground. Officers then roll her to her front and handcuff her. A female officer steps in to pull her dress down after it had ridden up.
A third woman who tries to remonstrate with officers is pushed away from the area. The second woman is later seen in handcuffs and the two women are taken away by officers in front of a raucous crowd. It is unclear what started the confrontation between the women and police.
A Victoria Police spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia police were aware of the video circulating on social media however declined to comment on the incident. The women's arrests were among 49 made during New Year's Eve celebrations in the Melbourne CBD, the spokesperson said, 10 of which were arrested for assault, affray or robbery.
