Woman filmed licking ice cream in supermarket sparks police hunt

Detectives are working to confirm the identity of a woman featured on a viral video licking ice cream before putting it back on the shelf.

Once her identity is verified, detectives will arrest the woman on a charge of second degree tampering with a consumer product.

The video, which was uploaded on Twitter, went viral after it was posted on June 28 and the post quickly led supermarket chain, Walmart, to investigate the incident.

Blue Bell, the ice cream company, instructed all division managers to attempt to identify which store had the contaminated ice cream tub. Texan Walmarts from San Antonio to Houston were investigated in hopes of tracking down the contaminated ice cream.

Eventually a division manager called, believing the incident took place in the Lufkin store, after recognising the display shelf in the video.

Blue Bell, have since contacted local police, saying they believe they have retrieved the contaminated tub of “Tin Roof” ice cream.

“Our biggest concern is consumer safety – in that regard we are glad to see the tainted product off the shelves,” said Lufkin Director of Public Safety, Gerald Williamson.

Police have since been able to pull CCTV footage, which shows the woman entered the store with a male. Police are also trying to identify him as part of their investigation.

Lufkin Police assured the public via Facebook they would be working the case over the Independence Day holiday - the 4th of July.
