'Grossest thing I've come across': Woman disgusted at discovery in Woolworths bread

A Victorian mum was taken aback after finding a worm moving round inside her loaf of Woolworths bread.

The woman, a Geelong resident, posted a video of her unexpected discovery on Facebook on Monday.

“My little girl is hysterical because she just ‘ate’ bugs,” the mum wrote.

“Probably the grossest thing we have ever come across.”

In the video, the woman touches a slice of the Vienna bread before a little brown worm appears and wriggles around.

Woolworths wrote in response asking the woman to return the loaf “for a replacement” or a “full refund”.

“We're concerned to see you've found insects within your bread,” it wrote.

It’s not known how the worm got into the bread. However, it’s doubtful a live worm could survive the baking process used to make bread.

“Our teams operate to the highest food safety standards,” a Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo News.

“They bake our bread at more than 200°C and seal it shortly after it comes out of the oven in an area that is thoroughly cleaned daily.

“Given our baking procedures, it’s difficult to understand how something like this could happen, so we’re keen to follow the matter up with the customer to investigate.

“The store hasn’t received any other complaints of a similar nature at this time,” the spokesperson added.
