Shocking end to police chase after driver sped from roadside stop

Dramatic footage has emerged of the moment a police chase came to a crashing halt in Western Sydney.

CCTV footage shows a 4WD speeding down Park Road in Wallacia, near Penrith, before flipping onto an electricity pole and cutting power to the camera.

Police said the driver took off after spraying an officer with capsicum spray during a roadside stop.

A 24-year-old man is now under police guard in Westmead Hospital with suspected spinal injuries. He is facing a string of charges.

A search of the vehicle allegedly found a loaded pistol along with capsicum spray and a knife.

The police officer sprayed with capsicum spray received first aid at the scene and did not require further medical treatment, police said.
