Get ready to shiver: Record-breaking warm winter weather to end with temperatures set to fall
A record breaking warm spell is set to be broken next week as Australia’s east coast finally bears down for some seasonally appropriate wet and chilly weather.
The harbour city has enjoyed its longest July streak of above 20 degrees, while Brisbane has also recorded a record-breaking high average for the month, according to Sky Weather.
Sky Weather meteorologist Tom Saunders said Sydney has seen eight days with temperatures above 20C.
“We have records going back to the 1850s, and we’ve never seen that many days above 20C in July — and we could add a few more,” he said.
“Brisbane has also had a record, averaging 23.3C as a maximum which is a new high for July.”
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson Yahoo News Australia, however, the sunny days were numbered, but would at least see Sydneysiders through the weekend.
Temperatures are set to hover around the 20 degree mark throughout Saturday, Sunday and Monday, but the same can’t be said for the remainder of the week.
Sydney will dip to 17 on Tuesday and likely stay in that zone for the week as a front brings rain and ensures the mornings and evenings remain chilly.
By contrast, those in Melbourne have some mild conditions to look forward to in comparison to the past week, according to the BoM.
The temperature in the city will continue hovering between 14 and 15 degrees well into next week, but with far less wind bringing much-desired reprieve.
“There will be showers at times and not a lot of wind compared to what it has been,” the BoM spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia.
A low pressure system will bring some thick cloud but more settled conditions and a break from strong gusts.
Canberra can also expect temperatures between 13 and 15 for the rest of the week and into next, but will have little relief from freezing mornings of between -2 and 1.
Western Australia’s capital will remain warm with temperatures between 18 and 23 seeing Perth through until late next week.

Brisbane will be similarly toasty and enjoy comfortable averages between 22 and 25, however some rain is expected for Wednesday and Thursday.
Conditions are looking a little bleaker for those in Hobart, as sporadic rain and temperatures between 10 and 14 set the tone in the capital until late next week.
Darwin however, won’t have a drop of rain, instead it will enjoy sunny conditions with tops of 32 throughout the weekend and into next week.
There will be some light showers and temperatures between 15 and 16 in Adelaide for the weekend and throughout next week.
