Kangaroo headbutts man, breaking his jaw and knocking him out

A man suffered a broken jaw and was knocked out cold by a kangaroo while hunting with his brother in Western Australia.

Joshua Hayden, 19, was in a paddock in Kellerberrin in Western Australia's wheatbelt on Tuesday night when he noticed three kangaroos, the ABC reports.

Sitting in the car with his brother, Mr Hayden leaned out the window and prepared to take a shot but the kangaroo charged at the moving vehicle.

The 19-year-old said it smashed into the side of the car and destroyed the front window.

"Then it bounced back onto me and headbutted me straight in the jaw," he said.

At the time, Mr Hayden had no idea what had happened. He was knocked out for 30 seconds, woke up and accused his brother of hitting him.

He said, "no, the kangaroo did".

Mr Hayden's brother rushed him to hospital. He's since been referred to Royal Perth Hospital and has been told he'll have to wait 10 days for surgery due to the extensive face swelling.

Mr Hayden added he's never seen kangaroos fight back while hunting them and that he and his brother normally hunt them for food.
