Perth man who swore and threw rocks, bottles at Muslim woman fined $2400
A Perth father has been fined more than $2000 for attacking a Muslim woman who didn't wish him a Merry Christmas.
It comes as details were revealed of an exhange between Hulya Kandemir and Adam Peters in Beeliar, Perth, in December last year.
When Ms Kandemir said "happy holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas," she was racially abused and hit with a beer bottle and rocks.
During the vitriolic attack she was called an "effing Muslim c***".
Mr Peters claimed he didn't know Ms Kandemir, 34, was Muslim, or that Muslims did not celebrate Christmas - a claim she calls "rubbish".
When he swore at her, she reacted by angrily swinging her shopping bag.
The child care worker says she "can't remember" if her bag connected with the man's shoulder, but she did not deserve to have a bottle thrown at her.
Mr Peters also threatened her, saying "the next time I see you - I'll kill you, you're dead."
The mother of four didn't want her assailant to get away, so she followed him. He continued to swear at her and even threw rocks at her.
The victim has labelled the incident a race hate crime.
In court she described Mr Peters as "bogan white trash".
The unemployed father of two was found guilty of the racially-fuelled assault and fined $2400.
