‘No one’s gonna believe this’: Fisherman’s shock discovery

The buck stops where? In the middle of the ocean, apparently.

A group of fishermen found the catch of a lifetime when they discovered a buck deer swimming in the ice-cold Atlantic Ocean, almost 10km off the coast of Connecticut.

The six-point buck was swimming in circles when fisherman Rob Kurdy and his friends decided to save it.

“I could see it shivering,” Mr Kurdy said.

“The poor guy was struggling in the water; he was barely staying afloat. We [had] to save him.”

Kurdy’s group then towed the deer back to safety, tying him by his horns to the boat.

“We were actually able to stick the rope around his antlers real gently,” Mr Kurdy said.

“We used one of the boat cleats to tie it to him and make sure that he was comfortable.”

In spite of their best efforts however, the buck wasn’t able to manage another stroke.

So when they neared land, Mr Kurdy put on a life jacket, jumped into the water and pulled the deer to shore himself.

"It's a life," Mr Kurdy said. "I'm not just gonna let it drown."

Neighbours then ran to the rescue, covering the shivering animal with towels.

Eventually, the buck was actually able to stand up and walk away on his own.

“It’s a true fisherman’s story,” said Mr Kurdy. “No one’s gonna believe [this].”
