St. Louis Police Said to Have Used Pepper Spray to Arrest Dozens of Protesters

Police officers dressed in riot gear are said to have used pepper spray to arrest dozens of protesters in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 17.

A group of officers can be seen kettling protesters on the ground as others spray a substance identified by eyewitnesses as pepper spray. The protesters were cornered at the intersection of Washington Avenue and North Tucker Boulevard, which can be seen in this video.

The uploader can be heard coughing before getting sprayed with the substance and getting arrested himself.

St Louis police arrested more than 80 protesters on Sunday, September 17, during the third night of demonstrations following the acquittal of a former police officer in the shooting death of a suspected drug dealer.

Former Officer Jason Stockley, who is white, had been charged with murder in the death of Anthony Lamar Smith, who was black. A judge had ruled him not guilty on Friday, prompting protests that lasted through the weekend. Credit: Rebelutionary_Z via Storyful
