Melbourne mum left shaken as cyclist grabs, throws keys in road rage clash

A mother has been left traumatised after an angry cyclist threw her car keys away and left her stranded with her daughter, who has Down syndrome, in a road rage clash in Victoria.

Naomi Cooper was driving along Mount Dandenong Tourist Road when she noticed a cyclist screaming at her.

“I heard a great, big thump on my driver’s side, the back window, the next window, all the way along,” Ms Cooper said.

“I’ve looked up and there’s this cyclist screaming at me.”

As reported on 3AW, the Boronia woman was on her way to hospital to pick up her mother when the altercation occurred on Tuesday about 2.30pm.

She said she pulled over to see if she’d “clipped him or done anything wrong”.

“As soon as I put it in park he reached in, grabbed my keys and [threw them] straight over the top,” she said.

Ms Cooper said the confrontation was enough to upset her 12-year-old daughter Grace.

She tried to calm Grace down as officers from the Belgrave Police Station arrived and found her keys.

Senior Sergeant Doug Berglund said the keys were found down an embankment and described the cyclist’s actions as not what he calls “gentlemanly”.

Ms Cooper said she doesn’t know what provoked the cyclist and doesn’t believe she broke any road rules.

But she wants the man to come forward so she can hear his side of the story.
