Pictured: Halloween bandits wear face masks during terrifying Melbourne home invasions

Police are hunting a group of men who wore scary masks as they targeted homes in Melbourne on Halloween.

Victoria Police say four men, two of them in skull masks, attempted to force entry into two homes in Springvale about 2am on October 31 but were stopped by the occupants.

"Three of the occupants of the car have approached the front door where they have attempted to force entry," Victoria police said.

"One of the offenders is described as being of obese build and was wearing black pants with white stripes, a dark grey jumper and red sneakers.

"Another had slicked back black hair and was wearing runners, a dark-coloured puffer jacket and blue or grey tracksuit pants.

"A confrontation has then occurred on the street between the offenders and the victim, before the offenders have returned to the vehicle and driven away."

Victoria Police on Tuesday released CCTV footage of the men in a bid to track down those responsible.

"The offenders arrived in a dark four-door Holden Crewman Cross 8 utility with a distinctive canopy attached to the rear," Victoria Police said.
