WATCH: Woman confronts shoppers grabbing baby formula before it's put on Coles shelves

A Melbourne woman has filmed the moment dozens of shoppers grab tins of baby formula before Coles staff have a chance to put it on the shelves.

Hannah Dixon started telling the shoppers at the Bridge Road supermarket in Richmond what they were doing was "wrong" and "cheating the system."

After the shoppers fill their baskets with the tins, some approach Ms Dixon to tell her to stop filming as she did not have their permission.

"We can assure you we are committed to ensuring that our customers with a genuine need for baby formula have access to this product," the response said.

"As we are currently experiencing unprecedented demand, we are limiting sales quantities to four units per customer."

"We're continuing our work to ensure our policies are strictly adhered to store to store."
