Mystery over two bodies found in separate rooms in $2m Melbourne house

Mystery continues to surround the death of an elderly couple discovered in a $2 million home in Melbourne's east.

On Monday afternoon, police were called to the four-bedroom home on Princess Street in Kew and found the body of a 69-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman.

Officer's said they were not looking for anyone else in connection to the deaths and sources suggest it could have been a murder-suicide with a gun reportedly found on the scene.

Police cordoned off the property overnight and were seen searching through two luxury cars parked in the driveway, The Herald Sun reported.

Neighbours described the unidentified couple as "reserved" and said the man appeared to be in poor health.

A cyclist said he often saw the man driving his Lotus Esprit around the local area.

At this stage it is unclear who made the grim discovery, but devastated family and friends arrived at the scene shortly after.

Homicide detectives are assisting with the investigation.
