'Cyclist hater' pouring oil on Melbourne bike paths

A "cyclist-hater" is targeting riders by pouring fuel on bike paths across Melbourne’s CBD.

It’s not known who has been covering the tracks with oil but several people have already been injured.

A sharp bend on the Dynon Road path in Melbourne’s west, now covered in fuel, has cyclists on high alert.

“It was pretty hairy because it’s in a dangerous position coming along the path here at 30 or 40 clicks in the dark,” cyclist David Gunn said.

Victoria Police Senior Constable Rueben Larson said “it’s a very serious concern”.

“Obviously coming off a bicycle at high speed can lead to some serious injuries,” he said.

It’s believed fuel has been poured across the track several times over the past few weeks.
