Driver 'deliberately ploughs car' into front entry of hospital

A man has been accused of deliberately driving his car into a hospital in Melbourne's west.

Police were called to the medical facility in St Albans about 9pm on Friday, where a 34-year-old man from Caroline Springs had crashed his vehicle into a building.

The driver had earlier presented to staff in the emergency department but left without being treated.

He returned and is accused of deliberately driving his car through the department's front doors.

Police Snr sgt Jason Dolman said it was incredibly lucky someone was not injured in the incident.

"Luckily the major main entry to the hospital where usually a lot of patients would accumulate didn't have anyone present," Snr sgt Dolman said.

Nobody was injured in the crash but the driver was taken to hospital for further assessment.
