A Geelong teenager who drank copious amounts of alcohol before causing $200 worth of damage at a café, has been warned by his mother to get his act together or move out.

Clancy Faulkner appeared in the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he pleaded guilty to damaging property and being drunk in a public place, reports the Geelong Advertiser.

The court heard that the 19-year-old had consumed half a slab of beer and an unknown quantity of mixed drinks on February 28, before he pushed over a café drinks fridge on Parkington Street in Geelong West.

“They approached a drinks fridge outside a cafe and tipped it over, causing $200 damage,” Police prosecutor Sergeant Peter Beard said, according to the Geelong Advertiser.

Café staff followed Mr Faulkner and a co-accused and police arrived a short time later and arrested Mr Faulkner in Hope St.

Sgt Beard said Mr Faulkner was clearly intoxicated and noted that he had attempted to run away from police, but had slipped and fallen over.

Sgt Beard said that Mr Faulkner was unable to recall his actions when he was interviewed by police, but admitted to drinking half a slab of heavy beer and an unknown quantity of mixed drinks.

The court heard that Mr Faulkner had serious alcohol issues and Magistrate Ann McGarvie noted that it was Mr Faulkner’s third time before the court for an alcohol-related offence.

“He’s a nuisance more than anything else to the community,” Ms McGarvie said.

The court also heard that Mr Faulkner had been warned by his own mother that he needed to stay sober or find somewhere else to live, reports the Geelong Advertiser.

The 19-year-old was convicted and placed on a 12-month Community Corrections Order.

He was also ordered to undergo assessment and treatment for alcoholism, was fined $350 and ordered to pay $200 restitution.
