Ten people treated after storage tank accident
Three people are critically ill and seven others have been treated after a cleaning chemical accident on a Victorian dairy farm.
Several people fell ill when a chemical used to clean the storage tank on a rural property in Cloverlea, near Warragul in the state's east, reacted with its contents and displaced oxygen inside.
Two police officers and a paramedic who were helping the group were among the injured and were taken to hospital in serious but stable conditions.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Holman said the group suffered a reaction after one man began cleaning inside the tank with ammonia.
He said the group was unable to breathe because of the fumes in the tank.
"He was overcome, possibly not so much by the fumes but a lack of oxygen, while another two men were also overcome," he said.
The trio, believed to be a father and his two sons, in serious but stable conditions were flown to Melbourne, with two taken to The Alfred Hospital and one taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Three other people were treated at the scene and taken by ambulance in a stable condition to a hospital in Warragul.
Four others were treated at the scene.
"They're mostly suffering from nausea - it's evidently quite a disgusting smell," Mr Holman said.
The CFA rescued the group from the tank and will remain on the scene to decontaminate the area, Ambulance Victoria said.
Worksafe Victoria says it will investigate and has sent a team to the site.
