'Utterly derelict' Sydney home on sale for staggering price

If the proposition of breaking into the Sydney property market scared you already, the staggering price tag attached to this run-down home may just give you nightmares.

Despite being described “utterly derelict, falling down and exposed to the elements”, the owners of the 228sqm, three-bedroom Enmore property in Sydney’s inner west appear confident it can still fetch a very decent price.

“Having succumbed to the passage of time, this neglected property is now requiring a new owner with some imagination to design and construct a contemporary home,” the listing reads.

If that sounds like your kind of place, it can be … for a cool $1.3 million at auction next month.

And while this “home” may be overgrown, covered in graffiti and without doors, the real estate agency behind the advertisement felt it was necessary to point out that at least the neighbouring homes are nice.

“Opposite some of the most grand, largest homes in the area,” the ad reads.

But it’s derelict nature has also been used to market the property with the real estate agent describe the property at 52 Juliett Street as an ‘overgrown Angkor Wat home’.

When images of the property surfaced online, Reddit users couldn’t hide their astonishment and general fury at the state of Sydney’s real estate market.

“Is this actually real?” questioned one user.

“Your own private prison yard,” another added.

Another put simply “needs work”.

“Everyone I know my own age in Sydney is getting out or already has. It’s gone completely out of control, there’s no future there,” another added.

“‘Open plan’, ‘close to nature’, ‘artistic’… It has it all,” one user wrote.

However, not everyone thought the $1.3m price tag was quite so outrageous.

“You have food and so much of it at your door step, you have culture through art, music and theatre around you. The area is truly vibrant,” one Reddit user said against the trend.

“It’s probably fair to the local area,” another added.
