Uber driver blames cabbies for having to drive on a footpath
A Queensland Uber driver who claims taxi drivers deliberately parked him in, is being investigated for driving on a footpath.
Max Foley told the ABC that he resorted to driving on the sidewalk after up to five taxi drivers blocked his exit from a private driveway in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley on Sunday.
Police said they are investigating the incident after footage of Mr Foley’s car driving on the path was posted on social media.
They could not confirm Mr Foley’s claim that he’d lodged a deprivation of liberty complaint against the cabbies who allegedly parked him in for about 10 minutes.
Mr Foley said he asked the taxi drivers to move after he picked up a customer but they “scoffed at me and refused”.
He said he decided to use the footpath to make it back to the road, only went “at a crawl”, and denies claims he clipped a taxi marshal in the process.
The Queensland Taxi Council says it’s clear from the footage that Mr Foley broke the road rules and the entire area he was in was a taxi rank.
“I don’t know what he was doing picking up a passenger in that space, but whatever it is, he shouldn’t be driving down the footpath,” the council’s chief executive Blair Davies told the ABC.
Mr Davies said the taxi marshal allegedly clipped by the Uber had also complained to police.
