Gruesome video shows man's shocking injury after fishing hook hit him in the face

WARNING - GRAPHIC CONTENT: Two North Queensland mates enjoying some fishing have ended up rushing to hospital.

Brad Simmons and Kenny Mountford were fishing in waters in front of The Strand in Townsville on Wednesday at about 8.30pm.

“We were trolling lures for barramundi and Kenny had hooked a turtle,” Mr Simmons told Yahoo News.

“We were trying to pull the turtle in to get the lure out of it.”

The hook managed to get loose but came back and smacked Mr Simmons in the forehead.

Video shows the pair fishing in darkness.

Mr Simmons is in the water before the hook lands latches onto his head.

“We’re going to have to cut the hook off,” Mr Mountford says.

“Are you alright?”

Mr Simmons says, “yeah”.

“I’m just glad it’s my forehead and not my eye,” he says.

He later told The Today Show despite the gruesome injury it wasn’t that painful.

“It was more the shock of it,” he told the program.

“It wasn't until the lure actually dangled down in front of me face and I could hear Kenny's profanities that yeah, I knew I was hooked well and truly.”

The pair took Mr Simmons to hospital where he had the hook removed.

Mr Mountford told the Townsville Bulletin the mishap won’t get in the way of the pair going on future trips.

“We love our fishing,” he said.
