A mysterious loner dressed in black as she walks across the United States has sparked worldwide curiosity.

Dubbed ‘the woman in black’, she wears a long black robe, barely speaks and always carries around black luggage while she treks across the country.

She has so far walked 520 miles from Georgia to Ohio, but nobody knows where she is heading or why she is walking.

A Facebook page was set up dedicated to ‘the woman in black’ and thousands of bewildered fans are tracking her journey and posting photos of her.

“Have you seen the mysterious woman/women in black drifting through your area? We want to know! Where is she headed? What’s her mission?” the Facebook page states.

Many have guessed her background and mission. Some think she is on a ‘Bible mission’ and is heading to Virginia, investigators thought she was from an Islamic nation and worked at the Pentagon, although this proved to be false.

Others think she is mentally ill, the Daily Mail reported.

“Nobody knows the story to her. She won’t talk to nobody. It’s like a mysterious story on the internet,” Alexandria Shubert told WATE.

The woman has been identified by the police as Elizabeth Poles, 56, of Motts, Alabama. Other than that, her story remains unknown.
