A P-plate driver who had his licence for less than two months has had his car impounded after he allegedly drove at 56km/h over the speed limit yesterday.

The 17-year-old is alleged to have driven a Toyota Yaris at 106km/h in a 50km/h zone on Ashley Road in Tapping at about 9.50am.

The teenager had received his provisional drivers licence just seven weeks earlier.

Police impounded the car for 28 days and charged him with reckless driving.

He will appear in court at a later date.
