The Tripcover app for users of iPhone's and Android smartphones allows travellers to bypass car rental companies when buying excess on car insurance.
The excess package has been developed in conjunction with Allianz by Queensland-based Tripcover which claims it offers savings of up to 60 per cent.
For example, an excess of $4000 can be reduced from around $5.51 per day compared to a rental company fee of $33 per day.
