West Coast on rise in amateurs

West Coast plodded along in the WA Amateur Football League A Grade last season, doing enough to avoid relegation, but they are making their mark early in the 2015 campaign.

The City Beach-based team lost the first game to the powerful Trinity Aquinas but have won three in a row since to be third on the ladder.

In round four at home on Saturday, West Coast embarrassed past powerhouse North Beach to win by 76 points, 15.10 to 2.12.

West Coast’s Brad Bennet continued his good season in front of the sticks with three goals to take his season’s tally to 12.

Previously undefeated Trinity Aquinas got a jolt, succumbing to reigning premiers University at UWA Sports Park and losing top spot to Kelmscott.

Uni won 12.7 to 7.7 to remind the competition they are still a force to be reckoned with.

Promoted Kelmscott are also catching the eye. They accounted for North Fremantle at home on Saturday, 13.12 to 10.4, to grab top spot with a healthy percentage of 163.

The Bulldogs have now won 10 in a row - six at the end of last season to storm to the B Grade premiership and four this season in A Grade. Sean Lynch and Malcolm Yarran are causing havoc up forward in the top grade, having kicked 22 goals between them.

Wesley Curtin and Fremantle CBC got back on the winners’ list, beating Mt Lawley and Kalamunda respectively. The latter two are winless.

In B Grade, Swan Athletic continued on their winning way, beating Wanneroo in a shootout, 19.9 to 17.6. They and Hamersley Carine are undefeated after four rounds.
