Elmassian has five-shot buffer over WA’s Green

Into second place: Hannah Green

Elizabeth Elmassian will take a five-shot lead into the final round of the Bowra & O’Dea 72-Hole Classic at Lake Karrinyup after carding an eagle on the 16th hole yesterday.

Elmassian entered the third round with a seven-shot lead and fired an even-par 74 to maintain a significant buffer on the rest of the high-quality field.

The NSW teenager is chasing her fourth amateur victory and said she was happy to absorb the pressure of being the overnight leader and outright favourite.

“I can’t wait,” Elmassian said.

“It’s going to be a good day out there, it just depends on what this wind does. It was blowing a lot differently this afternoon.”

Mt Lawley’s Hannah Green carded a 71 to move into second and is within striking distance of her second title at the prestigious event.

Singaporean Jen Goh jumped into contention with a third-round 70 to move alongside Victorian Julienne Soo at one over.

Green is waging an individual battle with Soo, the pair hoping to win a $10,000 scholarship through the Karrie Webb Series.

“Today was much better,” Green said.

“There’s weren’t as many mistakes and I had some good putts out there.

“Overall I’ve had a lot of shots I'm happy with, it’s just making the putts.”
