West Coast defenders Mitch Brown and Will Schofield have proved their fitness ahead of Saturday night’s round-one clash with the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.

However, coach Adam Simpson stopped short of guaranteeing them a place in the side when asked on Seven News last night.

“They’ll both be available,” Simpson said.

“Unfortunately we haven’t had all of them playing together.

“We’re working on a few things, but we’ll get some talls back this week.”

Brown and Schofield were both on the track during yesterday’s training session at Domain Stadium.

They completed the light skills hit-out without a problem, showing no signs of the injuries which have hampered them this pre-season.

Brown (hamstring) played just one of the three NAB Challenge fixtures and wasn’t named for East Perth’s match against Swan Districts at the weekend.

Schofield (ankle) has missed the Eagles’ past three games after playing against the Indigneous All-Stars last month.

Their form this season is crucial following Eric Mackenzie’s season-ending knee injury.

Jack Darling was another notable face training yesterday as he continues to work his way back from foot stress fractures.

The 22-year-old is not expected to be available for selection until at least round four.

“We’re pretty positive. He was up there today training and kicking the ball,” Simpson said.

“I think once he gets on the track it will be a pretty quick transition.

“We’re still taking a bit of patience with his progression.”

Xavier Ellis is racing to prove his fitness in the lead-up to round one, completing a series of run-throughs and later joining the main group as he continues to build strength in an injured hamstring.

Swan Districts utility player Matthew Rogers goes directly to the tribunal tonight on a charge of rough conduct for a high bump on East Perth ruckman Paul Johnson at the weekend.
