Coach in town to see WA tyros

Former Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson will get his first look at an emerging group of WA teenagers today when he attends the WAFL Talent Day at Lathlain Park.

The 50 best young WAFL prospects will take part in the program when a series of shortened games are played in front of the new AFL Academy coach and AFL recruiters.

The players spent last night completing the same fitness testing which will be asked of them at the end-of-year draft combine and today's itinerary also includes psychological testing and meetings with AFL clubs.

Sanderson was appointed AFL Academy coach last month after being sacked by the Crows.

There are five WA players in the level-one squad and five in the draft-age level-two squad.

WAFL talent manager Raff Guadagnino said having Sanderson in Perth was a great start.

"The role shows the commitment to the next group of rising stars from the AFL," he said.

South Fremantle forward Callum Ah Chee, whose brother Brendon is on Port Adelaide's list, is regarded as one of the most exciting players in the country and will draw plenty of attention from recruiters. Subiaco's Greg Clark and East Fremantle pair Jordan Snadden and Tom Bennett are also highly rated.
