Fremantle have suffered a fresh blow ahead of the AFL finals, with key midfielder Michael Barlow ruled out for a fortnight with a broken thumb.

Barlow is set to miss the final two games of the home-and-away season after suffering the injury in the third term of the Dockers' 19-point win over Hawthorn at Patersons Stadium on Sunday.

The left thumb will not require surgery but does make life tough for the Dockers with games against Brisbane at the Gabba and top-four hopefuls Port Adelaide before the finals.

It comes as the club prepares to challenge fellow star midfielder Nat Fyfe's two-match suspension at the AFL Tribunal tonight.
