Freo suffer double injury blow

Fremantle defenders Luke McPharlin and Garrick Ibbotson will both miss Sunday’s game against Greater Western Sydney with calf injuries in a blow for the finals-bound side.

The two defenders were the only confirmed outs for the club, who named All Australian pair Matthew Pavlich and Michael Johnson to return against the Giants.

Hayden Crozier, Matt Taberner and first-year defender Alex Pearce were also named in the squad of 25, which will be trimmed by three tomorrow.

The Giants has made a raft of changes for the clash, bringing WA draftee Cam McCarthy into the squad along with last year’s No.1 draft pick Tom Boyd, Jono O’Rourke, Matt Buntine, Lachie Plowman, Jacob Townsend and WA’s Rory Lobb.

Key midfielders Stephen Coniglio (thumb) and Adam Treloar (groin) were left out of the squad along with Kristian Jaksch and Sam Frost (both omitted).
