Box bogy for Crossley's On Coin

Owner-trainer John Crossley is philosophical about On Coin's draw in box five for Saturday's WA Final of the Sprint Championship (530m).

He knows only too well On Coin's horror statistics out of the box - only one win from eight attempts. On the flipside he has been placed six times.

"I thought before the draw the two boxes I don't want are five and seven," Crossley said. "But this is the box we have and we just have to make the most of it.

"Everything seems to be well with the dog. He has had a good week at work."

NSW champion Chica Destacada, who finished fifth in the final of the recent WA Oaks series, will return when Cannington hosts the National Sprint and Distance titles next Saturday week.

Hall of Fame greyhound Sandi's Me Mum was the last WA champion to win at Cannington, in 1989.

On Coin missed last February's Perth Cup series when he ripped a muscle on his shoulder in a fall at Cannington on January 18.

On Coin bounced back from his injury to beat the Group 1 Temlee winner Zelemar Fever second-up in the final of the Lew Dorsa Memorial on April 12.

The Linda Britton-trained Zelemar Fever will relish having drawn the red box in her bid to break a losing streak, with her last win being at Cannington on May 31. Britton holds a strong hand with Star Recall (3) and Gomes (4) also engaged.

Britton has Reverberate (4) vying to keep the National Distance title at home against the likes of four-times Group 1 winner Xylia Allen, who swept to within $14,133 of Miata's all-time Australian prize money record of $715,508 with her win in the Victorian State distance final.
