Ricciardo faces stewards probe

Australian Daniel Ricciardo is under investigation for breaking Formula One laws and could be stripped of his second place at Sunday’s grand prix in Melbourne.

Ricciardo and his Red Bull Racing team have been referred to race stewards, who were meeting Sunday night to determine the Australian’s fate.

Ricciardo’s car exceeded maximum fuel flows during the race, FIA Formula One technical delegate Jo Bauer said.

“During the race, car number three (Ricciardo) has exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow of 100kg/h,” Bauer said in a statement.

“As this is not in compliance with ... Formula One regulations, I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration.”

Ricciardo’s Red Bull Racing team refused to comment on the matter and stewards gave no indication of how long their hearing would take.
