Carey Park set up their 43-point win over August Margaret River at Kelly Park on Sunday with a Matthew Martin-dominated first quarter, with the big full forward booting four of his nine goals for the game.

Martin was on the end of the Panthers midfield domination where Graham Jetta was in great form which saw him become a unanimous winner of the match ball for the best on ground in the Belt-Up fixture.

The Panthers were dealt a major blow when star recruit Matt Cavedon was red carded for charging about 10 minutes into the game, when the teams were level on 2.1, with Mitch Gerrans adding two goals with clever play.

Martin added his third and Hawks big man Justin Simmons goaled from a powerful kick to again tie up the scores and follow up with a point to take the lead. It looked as if the crowd was in for a tight game.

It was not to be however, as a combination of speed around the ground and solid defence held the Hawks goalless from the 16-minute mark of the first quarter until the four-minute mark of the third.

Martin had six by half-time as the lead stretched to seven goals, despite the Hawks' best effort, with Graham Jetta still dominating the middle of the ground. Brandon Jetta was also in fine form and recruit Loki Lawrence was rucking well around the round.

Dan Atkinson was providing plenty of resistance on the ball with the likes of Jesse Dornan, Simmons, the Gerrans duo, Jake Cassidy and Josh Morgan working hard to keep a competitive element to the Hawks' game.
