Young Bunbury entrepreneur Daniel McNish found a niche in the region's food market when looking for healthy takeaway.

The self-confessed gym junkie has opened a SumoSalad franchise in the heart of the Bunbury, giving the hungry masses a fresh option.

Mr McNish said he chose the northern end of Victoria Street because it was an up-and-coming area.

"There are new cafes and restaurants opening up in this section," he said.

"This area is going to be the next restaurant area in the CBD.

"It just has much potential."

The 22-year-old is the youngest SumoSalad owner in the country and believes he also has the nation's biggest store.

"I really want to bring a healthy, different option to the market," he said.

"I have had so many people express their excitement at the business.

"We really want to offer a healthy alternative."

The Sumo Salad franchise has more than 100 stores and - with international locations in New Zealand, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, South America and the USA - is ever-growing.

SumoSalad started when co-founders Luke Baylis and James Miller headed off on an American adventure in their early 20s and wanted smaller portion meals that were healthy.

The first SumoSalad store opened in Sydney in 2003 and the franchise makes an effort to source produce locally and ethically.
