The next generation of skateboarders were given an introduction to the sport by Skateboarding WA coaches recently.

The organisation held free clinics at Bunbury and Eaton skateparks and coach Jeremy Sheehan said these aimed to give young skaters an introduction to the sport.

"It's aimed at giving kids a taste of skateboarding because if you teach the right stuff now, you take years off their learning," he said.

"I think it's a really awesome program with inside tips that can make it easier.

"Getting kids out and about and active teaches them a healthy sense of danger.

"It's nice to provide positive role models and mentoring for kids outside of team sports."

Skateboarding WA holds clinics across the State with local government support.

Skaters must register and those under 18 require parent permission to take part.

Mr Sheehan, who described himself as a lifelong skater, said he enjoyed being able to pass on his knowledge.

"I get to go out and share what I love," he said.

"Skateboarding is great because it's such an individual activity that allows people to express creativity.

"People can do the same thing but have their individual style."

Mr Sheehan said Thursday's turnout was the best he had seen since holding clinics at Eaton.
