Charity event off to flying start

Wills Domain's Nick Corlat, Darren Haunold, Ned Thompson and Seth James and Royal Flying Doctor Service committee member Carole Grant are looking forward to the fundraiser.

Wills Domain managing director Darren Haunold is the brains behind an initiative to raise funds for a group dedicated to helping save the lives of WA people.

Flying 1000, a group raising funds to fit out planes for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, will be the recipient of funds raised at the gala cocktail event Vinolicious at the winery on March 14.

Vinolicious will celebrate artisan producers from the Margaret River region, with lots of produce for people to try. Sambalicious has been booked to entertain the crowd.

Flying 1000 committee member Carole Grant said the inaugural event would have great items available for those who participated in the auction. She said donors had been "extremely" generous.

All the funds raised by the event would go to a worthwhile cause. An entire plane fit-out would cost about $1 million, Ms Grant said.

"Money desperately needs to be raised to cover that cost," she said. "It's very important because each year the funding becomes more and more difficult to maintain, and the demand on the service increases."

Mr Haunold said the idea behind the event was to do more for a single charity which focused on helping all people.

"I think in so many ways, people are touched by the RFDS at some point in their lives. I just wanted to support that."
